It's here!
My dark teal yarn has arrived from Canada - only took two weeks! I'm off to wind a skein and to begin swatching, although it appears to be the same weight as the Bainin.

Well, I've hit a snag. My Teal yarn knits at 5.5 st. as opposed to 6 for the Bainin. I want to knit a 45" cardigan, which will be 248 st. around the pattern (not counting the button bands) which leaves nothing for filler stitches. Looks like I'm going to have to leave out something. The rope cable would probably be best and insert Chart "F" where Chart "B" would be. Or just leave Chart "F" out - it has a prominent position on the sleeves. Comments?

I need a keeper! I pulled several cardigans and Arans out, measured, and they run about 48" or 49", so I can keep everything in place, add my fillers and be on my merry way. I'll still be alternating between this and my Gibbie Shawl for about a week, so my progress may be a bit slow, but I'm ready to go - finally!

Good grief! I don't remember ever having such a time with gauge, etc. After making all the pattern adjustments, calculating exactly how many stitches, casting on and knitting about 14 rows of the rib pattern, the Jamieson is as stiff as a board - it's more like the old Rowan Magpie than the AS Bainin. Terribly disappointing. However, there is a bright spot. I suddenly remembered a huge hank of handpainted silk and wool in a beautiful teal that I bought years ago that has been languishing in my cedar closet awaiting the perfect project. I've been swatching all morning and it is fabulous! Wonderful stitch definition, a dream to knit with. As soon as I finish recalculating my SW file, I'll be casting on yet again, and hopefully this is for the last time.
