Yarn Selection

Here we go! YAY! I've not started on this project at all - but that's okay - I'd love to start swatching with some Cascade 220, maybe even today, but I'm also thinking this might be a great opportunity to try out some new yarns. I'm planning on taking my time with this project - I want it to be just right - so what's the rush, right? Many swatches might be in order! So I thought it might be a good idea to collect a list of all the possible yarns for this project. Can you help? If possible, leave a comment with the suggested yarn in the comments and any other information you might have about it (gauge, texture, etc.) Have you swatched it? Maybe a link to a swatch picture as well. I'll start keeping a list and hopefully we'll be able to add this information to the resources links in the sidebar. In the meantime, please check out Mary's gorgeous swatches! She'd done a few in Cascade 220, Blackwater Abbey, Jamieson's DK. She's got a few others up her sleeve too!

I think I'm going to spend some of my birthday money on Virtual Yarns 3-ply Hebridean! What AMAZING colors!

Enjoy everyone. This is going to be a very interesting ride!
Best,
Cara

Oh boy, yarns! I've swatched Briggs and Little Regal for this pattern, as well as the FLAK sweater. For the B&L I used a size 6 and have the swatch completed, just haven't blocked it yet. I came out like 6.97 stitches per inch over Chart A--I had garter stitch border, but didn't measure that. I think the gauge is 7 spi, so I'm right there. I'm hoping it will block a little bigger, that way I can up the size of the finished product without having to add filler stitches. If it stays close to what I'm getting now, I may go up to a 7. I'll let you know.

I also swatched--have it almost complete--the same chart on size 7 using Cascade 220. I love the feel of this yarn, but know that on the 7 it is too loose--although this would make a lighter weight sweater--less like the jacket that was intended. Haven't measured this one at all--seems to be coming out to fewer stitches per inch than the Regal, as the width appears smaller.

I promise I'll block the swatches this afternoon while dh watches his football games, and I'll post the results on my blog--or here--can we post the pictures here?

I love the summer isle virual yarn colors! I would love to purchase the 3-ply but I can't decise on the color. I want the cables to pop - is it better to knit on a darker shade?

Cara, have you seen the spreadsheet of yarns someone made for the FLAK? A lot of them will work for CIT.

Do you think I could use DK yarn instead of the heavy yarn? I need to upsize it as well. I think I have the charts figured out, but will write out a few rows to get started. Charts scare me.
