Tweed too Tweedy?
I'm stash diving and came up with an alpaca tweed. I don't generally see many arans made from very tweedy yarn. I've heard that cables can get lost in this type of yarn. But this yarn is such a pleasure to knit with. I think I may be hooked on it. What do you think? http://bubblegumknits.blogspot.com/ (January 10th)
Is anyone else swatching with tweed yarn.? .... Would love to see your swatch(es).
edit: As suggested by Jen. The swatch in sunlight

My friend started her sweater in Silkroad Aran Tweed and the pattern really got lost in the tweedy-ness of the yarn. My personal feeling is that this sweater is going to take a chunk of time out of life and a ton of wonderful work. I would want every stitch to be seen. I love tweeds in larger cable or aran patterns, where the yarn does part of the work to make it look wonderful, but with this one, the yarn should take a back seat to the knitting. YOU are doing all of the work on this one. Having said that, swatch it a bit and see what you think. It doesn't take too much time and will be worth it.

I don't know--I can barely make out the pattern on your swatch with the tweed yarn. Try taking a photo outside in natural light and post that--it could be the flash obscuring the pattern, too. For all the work--you really want those cables and twists to be the star of the show--not upstaged by the yarn.

My swatch in Rowanspun Aran did not show the "crispiness" of the twisted cables the way I wanted. Rowanspun aran is however a yarn with flecks and another type of yarn of yours. I think Am Kamin is at its best in a yarn of a solid or slightly heathered colour. Follow your feeling:) Monica

Actually a soft tweed might work, but your yarn is a marl, and your lovely stitch definition will be lost with that yarn. I would definitely use a solid color or a very mellow heather.
I did my first swatch in baby blue and my daughter loves it but I'm going to go with a darker color. The tiny spaces between and within the stitches have a suggestion of positive/negative space against the well-defined twisted stitches. In a darker color, this will add depth, but in a pastel it grays the sweater.

Hmm, to me it does obscure the twisted stitches. After all that work, you'd really want them to stand out.

The colour of your yarn is fabulous, but your stitches seem to be getting lost in all of it's splendor.

You are loosing stitch definition with what you are using. Also the halo of the yarn wil obscure the stitches even more.
A color on color tweed might do okay. Say a sage green and a darker shade of the same color. Or color of your choice.
