How far are you?

Everybody check in and let us know where you're at in the knitting of this sweater.

I'm about 9" into the back (from the bottom edge).

How far have you gotten?

I am done with the ribbing on the back and ready to start the body. I am a little nervous. I am using the Rowan Scottish Tweed Aran in claret with size 7 needles. I like it so far.

I have very little knitting time lately. I am knitting the back and the fronts in one piece. I have knitted 14 cm a bit less then 6 inches. I made some mistakes especially in charts C and E and have been correcting them lately. I hope to have more time to knit next week. I would also love to hear about the others progress. The difficult part is to find a yarn that is the right color, gives the right gauge for your size and has the stitch definition this pattern require. I think I was lucky in this part. Monica

I've done about 9 inches on the back, and about 7 inches of the left front (I started that first as a swatch). No pictures, since I don't have a place to post them. I'm using Cascade 220 and size 6 needles since I wanted a smallish sweater.

Is it just me - but how are you getting gauge using cascade on 6's? I'm still on the ribbing - long story - many stops and starts - using Naturespun worsted on 3's.
I'm finally happy now that I abandoned the tubular cast-on. I did the cast on correctly, I just couldn't find a way to make myself hapy going from that cast-on into the twisted rib. I just thought it was messy.
Anyway I should be able to make some time now. Does the pattern call for us to move to a larger needle after the ribbing?

I'm a little (OK - a lot) jealous of all of the progress. I had initially started earlier in the year but the yarn I had in my stash was way too light to get guage. My yarn from Black Water Abbey arrived on Friday, but I have made a promise to my fiancee to finish HIS sweater (all done but the making up and the collar) before starting another. Hopefully this weekend will be the start. And I am going to begin with the hat. Does that count as starting?

I'm on Row 70 of the back which means I'm supposed to start the armhole shaping next.

After a light patting and pulling, I'm getting a measurement of 18 inches in the width and 12½ inches in length.

The width doesn't bother me but I will be doing an extra 30ish rows.

My yarn for swatching--Part 3--arrived today. I have several KnitPicks yarns in a lovely cranberry. I have WOA, which I was considering using doubled, Andean Silk--what a lovely yarn, and Sierra--their bulky yarn. Question is which to try first.

Those of you who aren't getting row gauge--how are you going to adjust the raglan decrease? Just decrease at a slower pace?

Thanks!

I'm doing my fourth rendition in the round, so I'm only a few rows into the body. I've put it aside to finish two other projects for a bit. I'm ready to get back to it tomorrow.

Either that or take the easy way out and do a "drop shoulder.

I'm still at swatching stage. it's not easy finding a cotton yarn that fits the gauge. I am leaning towards Cotton ease but need to go down a needle size I think.

I had aimed to start this after I finished Samus but I've just been sidetracked by Jaywalker socks.

For those of you who wonder about what to do when not getting row gauge, do you know about Sweater Wizard. It is wonderful for this and Carole is verrrrry helpful. since I needed a bigger sweater, I am trying to get my measurements with the pattern stitch count. when I do that, I will put my actual row guage into SW and it will generate an accurate pattern for the raglan decreases.
For those of you thinking about cotton yarn you might want to go to the FLAK yahoo group and check out the archives on comments about cotton yarns. They are, yard for yard, for the same guage heavier than wool which might make an aran or better weight yarn which is what the original pattern suggests, very very heavy. Recall that the yarn used in the actual sweater was a wool acrylic blend which is lighter again than pure wool woudld be.

Marina if your row guage is off on the body, it will be off on the raglan decreases. Better check. My row guage is off also but I rewrote the pattern to accomodate it.
