Hat

My hat in Jaeger Shetland Aran, 80% alpaca 20% wool is ready for use. I knit the hat in the round on dpns 3,5mm and 4,5mm. It is a bit on the big side, but I can use it. I would want a better stitch definition for the cardi, so now I am swatching Rowan Magpie Aran. The cables pops really nice, but the question is: will it fit? The swatch I am working on now is big. I cast on 145 sts for the tubular co and ended up with 289 sts, enough for the back and the fronts:)

I tried to post the picture here but...

Wow! Monica I love the hat! Your knitting is beautiful. I will be curious to hear about the magpie. I am thinking about the rowan scottish tweed or the 3 ply from virtual yarns since the jo sharp silkroad aran isn't working.

Monica, your hat is beautiful! What if you went down to the 3.5mm needles for the cardigan? Would that make the cables more defined?

Monica, the Jaeger Shetland Aran sounds like it's a wonderful yarn. I'm concerned that since we're knitting these yarns tighter than the recommended guage that it will be quite warm if knit with alpaca yarn. After knitting the hat can you tell me if you think this is true or not?

Susan: Oh, Virtual Yarns 3ply, that is luxury! The colours are fanatstic. Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran is too soft for cables I think. Rowan Scottish Tweed might work for this. Magpie is perfect for cables, but i am afraid the cardi turns out a bit too big for me in that yarn. I am not sure yet.
Jen: It is possible that going down in needle size would show the stitches better. I will try that if my experiments with Magpie wont turn out ok.

Monica, it looks perfect! Which cast-on did you use?

Karon: I think Am Kamin will be a very warm cardi and alpaca content in the yarn will make it even warmer. If the cardi is tight on you it will be even more warm. The issue I trying to figure out is what size and how much ease would be the best for me. Jenna Wilsons excellent article in Knitty will help me: http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring05/FEATspr05TBP.html
Sylvia: I used the tubular cast on and I am very pleased with it. I am sure going to use it again.
