Book and Yarn

My pattern book, ordered through Kinokuniya, was delivered Tuesday, and this morning I ordered Jamieson's Aran yarn in Stonewash, a dark teal, from She Ewe Knits, a Canadian company in Ontario. This yarn is described as a perfect substitute for the old AS Bainin, so I'm pretty confidant about it, and the color is wonderful. Due to customs considerations it will probably be 7 - 10 days before delivery, so I'll spend that time charting the various motifs in Stitch and Motif Maker (and trying to finish my lace shawl!).

Hey! I have some Jamieson's Aran. Another yarn to swatch. That stonewash is lovely. I want that color.

I cast on 71 st plus 2 end stitches at each side using the original Bainin. After 10 rows (still on a circ) it looks like about 12", not counting the end stitches - just about 6 to the inch. I'm using a size 7 needle. As soon as the Jamieson gets here, I'll switch to that - just thought it a good idea to begin familiarizing myself with the pattern - besides I hit a big problem with my lace and didn't have anything else to do!

Still using the Bainin while waiting for the Jamieson delivery. I thought the traveling stitches looked funny - too loose? So I switched to a 6 needle, with a 5 standing by. Well, that was worse, so I knew the 5 wouldn't work. I pulled out an 8 and they look great - the entire pattern is much better. This really surprised me, I thought the design was quite tight, but apparently it isn't. I've also decided to do a modified "T" with a saddle shoulder, rather than a raglan (which I'm not fond of), and am still on the fence about whether to do a cardigan or a pullover. Whatever, it will be done in a single piece (I hate to sew up). And I'm going to do something different for the filler stitches on the sides. I don't like the look of the seed stitch, either moss or sand stitch will be my choice. Oh, and the lace is moving right along - my marker got switched (good grief").

I tried to find these books on Kinokuniya using their american site, and it didn't find any matches. When I used the Japanese site (which I can't read to determine how to order and pay, and how much it will cost), I found all of them! I can't seem to win on these...maybe the gods are against me this week. If anyone has any helpful insight, let me know.
